Pierre R. Schwob

Pierre R. Schwob was born in California but grew up in Geneva. He returned to the U.S. in 1973. Mostly self-taught, he immersed himself in IT and lectured on computer science at New York FIT and NYU before moving to Hong Kong in 1986. There he developed a novel radio receiver technology, which he licensed mostly in Japan. In 1994, the web still in its infancy, he founded Classical MIDI Archives. Upon his return to the States in 1997, this continued to be a passionate pursuit and became ClassicalArchives.com, one of the largest classical music sites in the world.
Pierre owns many patents. Several have been incorporated into a U.S. national standard.

Other Passions
Pierre has an ardent interest in the latest developments in astrophysics and cosmology, particularly at Stanford, KIPAC, and SLAC. His many visits to research labs worldwide brought him to the highest observatories, the deepest mines, and to the South Pole, among other striking locations. An asteroid (Schwob, 32890) has been officially named after him in recognition of his contributions to science and technology.
He is a long-time trustee of the SETI Institute in Mountain View, California, and lives in Palo Alto.

Pierre conceived and authored the narrated symphony, Cosmic Reflection, composed by Nolan Gasser. It offers the history of the universe in forty minutes. The work premièred in 2009 at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC. It was later recorded by the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Marin Alsop.
He is also following the intense work done at the Center for International Security and Cooperation (CISAC) at Stanford’s Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies.
